The newly completed recreational center, known as the “Jardin Robinson,” occupies a prime location nestled between the wooded water-banks of the Rhone and the iconic public facilities of the Lignon district. Designed by Stendardo Menningen Architectes, this center offers a modern interpretation of community spaces.
Contextual Integration
Situated on a steep slope between the Lignon school and a pedestrian path leading to the Rhone water-banks, the center required thoughtful design solutions for accessibility. A new access ramp was constructed at the main entrance, ensuring ease of access for all visitors.
Architectural Response
The architectural concept revolves around a folded volume, harmonizing with the surrounding landscape while accommodating the mobility needs of the area. Transparency and visual connectivity were prioritized, with large glass facades seamlessly blending the interior with the external environment.
Flexible Design
The interior layout features movable partitions, enabling versatile use to cater to various user activities. The main activity area includes a kitchen with access to the loggia, while a central core area facilitates visual control between different zones such as play areas, mezzanine, workshop, entrance, and administration office.
Natural Aesthetics
The oak façades, characterized by oblique blades, echo the surrounding trees, integrating the building with its natural surroundings. Additionally, the roof serves as a communal space, hosting thirty urban vegetable gardens and a fountain, offering a unique meeting point amidst the treetops.
