For the Love of the Game: Point Wells Cricket Club

The Point Wells Cricket Club isn’t just fond of cricket—it’s deeply passionate about it! Despite its modest size, the P.W.C.C stands proudly, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to host the Boxing Day test. With its vibrant red exterior adorned with an array of flags, it exudes the spirit of a proud peacock.

A Joyous Folly

Originally conceived as a simple shed, the P.W.C.C underwent a transformation, evolving into a whimsical folly dedicated to the game of cricket and all its quirks. The design, characterized by a distinctive chiselled roof, meticulous battening, and traditional weatherboards, pays homage to the iconic kiwi sports pavilions of yesteryears. A spacious viewing veranda, complete with a built-in seat, offers spectators a shaded vantage point to enjoy the game.

Celebrating Match Day

The architects infused the exterior with dynamic game day flags, symbolizing the excitement and unpredictability of cricket matches. Beyond being a venue for local kids and social teams, the clubhouse serves as a sanctuary for cricket enthusiasts. Inside, a lofty space painted in regal blue contrasts beautifully with the bold red exterior. Red accents on windows add to the visual appeal, while a timber ladder leads to a sleeping loft for visiting umpires.

Catering to Cricket Tradition

Designed to accommodate the leisurely pace of the game, the clubhouse features amenities for extended refreshment breaks and leisurely lunches in the sun. A well-appointed kitchenette boasts essential appliances, including a beer fridge, gas hob, dishwasher, and tea-making facilities. Changing and showering facilities tucked behind the kitchen ensure players are comfortable throughout the game.

The architects also crafted the club’s coat of arms and motto, “Nam amor ludere ludum,” which translates to “for the love of the game” in Latin, encapsulating the essence of the Point Wells Cricket Club.
