Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is gearing up to manufacture fuel for Formula 1 (F1) cars within the next three months. The fuel production will take place at the Paradip refinery located in Odisha, known for its advanced technology and strategic positioning.
SM Vaidya, Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), announced the partnership with Two Wheels Motor Racing as the “Official Fuel Partner” for the esteemed FIM (Federation Internationale De Motocyclisme) Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) for a duration of three years, spanning from 2024 to 2026. This collaboration will see Indian Oil producing fuel for Formula One cars at the Paradip refinery in Odisha.
The certification process for the specialized fuel intended for Formula One cars is expected to be completed within the next three months, as stated by Vaidya.
Under this collaboration, Indian Oil will supply FIM category 2 race fuel, named “STORM-Ultimate Racing Fuel,” for all rounds of the Asia Road Racing Championship.
The “STORM” fuel, produced at Indian Oil’s Gujarat refinery, is a prominent addition to Indian Oil’s diverse product range, which also includes AVGas 100LL and reference fuels, showcasing India’s dedication to self-reliance (Atma Nirbhar Bharat) and technological advancement.
The introduction of ‘STORM’ in the international arena marks a significant stride towards reinforcing the ‘Make in India’ initiative, demonstrating Indian Oil’s innovation and expertise in crafting specialized fuels that meet rigorous international standards.
Vaidya emphasized, “As we embark on this exhilarating partnership with TWMR for the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship, Indian Oil is proud to fuel the fast lanes of motorsport with our cutting-edge ‘STORM-Ultimate Racing Fuel’. The fuel stands as a symbol of innovation and excellence, embodying our relentless pursuit of developing specialized fuels that meet stringent international standards. This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening the ‘Make in India’ initiative on the global stage.”
The advantages of using STORM-Ultimate Racing Fuel in racing vehicles are manifold. It ensures engine parts and the fuel delivery system remain clean, provides corrosion protection for metallic components, and leads to tangible enhancements in vehicle performance, including faster acceleration, increased power, and smoother drivability.
Moreover, it aids in reducing engine deposits and exhaust emissions, promoting engine longevity and environmental sustainability.
In preparation for the forthcoming Thailand event of ARRC scheduled from March 15-17, Indian Oil has dispatched “STORM” fuel from Nhava Sheva port in Mumbai on February 23, 2024, with a virtual flag-off ceremony conducted by Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The IOCL Chairman expressed the company’s commitment to continuing its efforts until it can manufacture fuel for the esteemed Formula One car racing championship on a global scale.
